Myth 3: Egg collection is simple

Egg collection is an ultrasound guided, very safe procedure.

Egg collection is a precise, delicate, transvaginal procedure, where a needle is passed through the roof of the vagina, directly into both ovaries to collect your eggs. While it is possible to collect eggs under local anaesthesia, a true sedation anaesthetic is definitely superior, both in terms of patient comfort, and also allowing your surgeon to take the time needed to try to collect every egg.

A patient can only endure a procedure without anaesthesia for a very short time and in our practice, all patients have eggs collected under sedation anaesthesia managed by a specialist Anaesthetist. Egg collections are performed at Frances Perry House, Melbourne’s Premiere private Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Day Hospital.

The procedural success of egg collection, like all surgical operations, is influenced by the skill of the operating surgeon. In our practice, egg collections are performed by Dr Raelia Lew and Dr Rachael Knight. Both are highly skilled and experienced egg collection surgeon, each having successfully performed thousands of egg collection procedures over many years.

In our clinic, no matter what day your egg collection needs to be performed to achieve your best outcomes, you can rest assured your procedure will be performed by an elite IVF surgeon.
