Understanding Your Pelvic Floor With Dr Margaret Sherburn
What exactly your pelvic floor? Can you strengthen it before and during pregnancy? And if it's damaged during labour, what can you do postpartum to help repair it?
This week we speak with Dr Margaret Sherburn, a physiotherapist with decades of experience who specialises in continence and women’s health. She's also a senior lecturer and academic at the University of Melbourne. Margaret answers all of our questions about the structure and function of the pelvic floor, continence issues, and birth trauma – plus she guides us through an exercise in the studio (you can do it at home, too!).
If you're experiencing continence issues, there's a lot you can do to mitigate or solve the problem. Ask your doctor for more advice.
Here are the websites Margaret recommends at the end of the episode:pelvicfloorfirst.org.aucontinence.org.aubirthtrauma.org.au
Hosted by Dr Raelia Lew and Jordi Morrison
Dr Raelia Lew is a RANZCOG Board Certified CREI Fertility specialist, Gynaecologist and the Director of Women’s Health Melbourne.
